BBEdit is a free, open-source text editor developed by Barebones Software, originally designed for Macintosh, and now supporting many flavors of MacOS. Unlike some other software like Text editor, which requires the purchase of the software in order to be used on the computer and some other platforms, BBEdit is available for free. In addition, there are free, commercial version of this application available. This is mainly because unlike most commercial software available, such as Xcode and Pages, BBEdit does not require any type of payment or purchase in order to use it on your Mac. This feature of BBEdit also makes it popular among users who don't own any computers, since they can simply download and use it for free. One of the most known features of BBEdit is its powerful but simple to use fixed function system, allowing you to quickly navigate through the text editor and select specific areas for modification. This fixed function system makes it possible for one single user to perform multiple tasks at the same time, without having to move from one window to another. For example, if you want to make some changes in a document, just select the text you want to modify in the BBEdit window, then modify the selected text using the appropriate keyboard shortcuts, and save the changed document. You don't even need to be standing right next to your computer in order to perform the operation - the BBEdit application will synchronize all changes you have made locally or online to the computer where you are, so you won't even have to leave your desk to be able to save a document. And with the advanced flexible feature of the fixed function system, you can perform several simultaneous tasks in BBEdit, making it easier to create documents, modify texts and more. Although the fixed function system of BBEdit allows you to perform multiple tasks at the same time, there are some drawbacks of this feature. First of all, since BBEdit runs in the GUI (which means that you need a Mac OS to run the program), you cannot use the command line for creating and changing documents. This functionality was available in the older version of the software, but not in the latest release notes. Also, because the command-line text editor feature of the older BBEdit releases is only available on Windows, most people who would like to use the feature will not be able to.
