Signal is a free, open-source software application for Android, iOS and desktop which use end-to End encryption, enabling users to send secure, end-to-End encrypted message, file, and video & audio & video calls, and have secure, end-to-End encrypted phone conversations with other Signal users. Signal is used by millions of people around the world as their exclusive means of communication. Signal has no spyware or adware, no browser spyware, no trackers, no ads, no privacy limits, nothing... yet the developers continue to add new features, work on the user interface, add support for more browsers (including Firefox), and develop the core software itself to be constantly free of bugs, as this is the most important part of the software. The only cost is to download the Signal application from the Google Play Store. Google has made available the beta version of the Android version of Signal to everyone who wants to try out the product, to help them get a feel of it, without having to invest in it full price. Now users have the option of downloading the Signal app to their devices from Google Play or the Apple iPhone App Store. The Apple iPhone app can be downloaded through the app store and works just like an actual iPhone, with all the same features including call, messaging, GPS, accelerometer, camera, calendar, and plenty more. The Android version can be downloaded through the Samsung Apps Store, or through the Google Play Store. It appears as if Google is gearing up for its new application, which will allow users of smartphones with Google Play Service to download and receive Signal, possibly on an as-needed basis. In the past, Google has shown little interest in mobile communications and apps, but with the acquisition of Zagat and Sidewalk, they may begin to realize just how much potential apps and services like Signal can have for their platform. With apps like Google Places and Maps already in beta, along with such utilities like Google Now, it would only make sense for them to introduce a service that combines all the functions of mobile communication with a personalization experience.
